We need more backyard beekeepers. This would help maintain genetic diversity, and help bees survive. And as the survival of the Human Race depends on bees, it is very important that we preserve the species of bees.

I raise native Mason bees. They are solitary bees, so live in cut reeds, not hives, and don't produce honey. They are active for a month or two in the Spring, then the cocoons are put in the fridge until next season. Native bees are fantastic pollinators, do not sting (we often pick them up when they hatch and fall) and shouldnt have zoning issues. You can order cocoons online for several native species, set out tubes, and sit back to watch them work.
