(Bloomberg) Straphangers, rejoice! New York’s first new subway station since 1989 just entered service at 34th Street-Hudson Yards. The extension of the No. 7 line has been under construction since 2007 with a price tag of $2.4 billion. Connecting Times Square to 11th Avenue by a new 1.5-mile-long tunnel, the extension opens up the far west side of Manhattan, easing access for conventioneers at the Jacob K. Javits Center, tourists at the High Line, and forthcoming businesses and residents at the under-construction Hudson Yards mega-development. Its air-conditioned platforms and modern architecture and design—like inclined elevators—are a bonus. We take a look.
