Back in the late 70s, when I was stationed in TX, I was invited to a rodeo way out in the middle of nowhere, but knew nothing about them. I was a city kid. I was told that it was mostly an exhibition of horsemanship. Ok, I thought.

It was one of the most vulgar, vile things I have ever seen. Bulls were stunned by cattle prods then had the equivalent of electrical shock collars strapped around their midsections and were chased down by men both on horses and on foot. They hit them with whips and stabbed at them. One bull was killed right in the ring in front of us, stabbed by a kind of knife I'd never seen.

All around me, people - mostly other men - were cheering and clapping. Screaming for blood lust. I kept thinking, is this what passes for entertainment down here ? I was sickened by it. I left and waited in the parking lot until it was over.

Rodeo should be outlawed. I do not understand its appeal. It is sick. It is animal abuse.

Not only are Texans sick but so are the Spainish with their sick, sadistic bull fights.

Rodeo is a sport that grew out of the cattle industry in the American West. Its roots reach back to the sixteenth century.

The Spanish conquistadors and Spanish-Mexican settlers played a key role in the origin of rodeo with the introduction and propagation of horses and cattle in the Southwest.

ALL blood sports are inhumane and sick, imo.
