(22,000 posts)It has the potential to be the foreign crisis like the one that helped defeat Carter (granted the economy sucked too). Israel is going to get us sucked into a war with Iran and either Russia and/or China if they attack. Oil prices would skyrocket, inflation would go up and jobs would be lost. It would be the Republican's wetdream.

(166 posts)At least the U.S. is far from the area. But who knows how far Iran can go after U.S. interests and allies.
I don't think the Chinese would get involved unless they feel threatened. Russia will run away.

(166 posts)Israel has been ready for that war with Iran for a long time. Iran's leadership is new. China is in no hurry to get involved in the Middle East, and Russia's armed forces are no match for any western power. That war will probably not last too long.
On the other hand, oil prices will surely skyrocket. But this has happened before and oil is still abundant.

(166 posts)Don't let this scare too much the shit out of you. This the history of the Middle East, and will probably continue to be for many centuries to come. Israel has fought innumerable wars against its foes and it is still there, as strong as ever.
True, Iran is a another matter, and it most probably already has the capacity to engage Israel, so the United States is still the only one with the capacity to neutralize Iran.

(9 posts)Do you think just threatening Iran with our nuclear weapons could end all the fuss? I mean if Iran gets nuclear capabilities they will become even more tyrannical and crazy.. and even give that capability to Saudi Arabia. I think that we should eliminate the threat of nuclear arms in the hands of any country that would abuse that power, using any means necessary to stop them.

(90,061 posts)At least, not unexploded ones. They are sworn enemies.
Eliminating ALL nuclear weapons in the Middle East is, of course, a good idea.

(166 posts)Yeah, but I'd bet Israel's would be the first on the Ayatollah's list.
