Washington concerned at the decision to open the Green Zone to the public

Shafaq News / The United Stated has expressed concern about the Iraqi government's decision to open the "Green Zone", which is located in the center of Baghdad

and is subjected to high security measures and includes government headquarters and several embassies, to the public.

US State Department spokesman, Mark Toner said at a press conference "We have repeatedly expressed our concern about easing security restrictions in the Green Zone, which have long formed the US presence in Iraq.

He added that " Washington will monitor closely the security situation, and if necessary will continue to harmonize the security apparatus" in charge of the security of its embassy, ​​located in the heavily fortified area.
