Russia supported secession in Ukraine, but is now against secession-referendum of Kurdistan.

Moscow respects the desire of Kurds to have a national state, but believes the issue should be resolved through dialogue, not a unilateral declaration of independence, the Russian Foreign Ministry said after Iraqi Kurds voted for secession.

...

Moscow says it continues to support the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq and other Middle East nations, adding that the conflict over the status of Iraqi Kurdistan “can and should be resolved with constructive and respectful dialogue aimed at finding a mutual form of coexistence in a unified Iraqi state.”

-----------------------

When Crimea seceded from Ukraine, Russia said that's okay because they held a referendum.
"The crimean people want that! Who are you to deny the people of Crimea their freedom to make their own decisions!"

Now Kurdistan is holding a referendum on seceding from Iraq and all of a sudden a referendum is the wrong way to go and the issue should be settled via diplomatic dialogue.

Talk about russian double-standard.
