North Korea fires 'unidentified projectile' into sea toward Japan, South Korean military says

TOKYO — North Korea fired an “unidentified projectile” in the Sea of Japan, South Korea’s military said Tuesday.

The projectile was fired from an inland area toward the east around 6:40 a.m. local time, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement.

It added that the military is “maintaining a readiness posture while closely monitoring” the situation and that it is in communication with the United States.

The military provided no further information about the type of weapons fired Tuesday, the fourth test by North Korea this month, even as leaders in Pyongyang showed signs that they may be willing to resume negotiations with Seoul.

that their own new missile systems, demonstrated recently will not be effective in terms of their conventional first strike decapitation strategy. The decapitation strategy includes not only destroying the North's offensive strike capacity with missiles but also destroying the North's military and political leadership. Killing the North Korean leadership group is a major specific objective. Then you would have unknown generals in bunkers throughout North Korea, ostensibly armed with nuclear weapons perhaps without a central command authority.

The bigger news in South Korea is that the leading conservative candidate for the so called People's Power Party nomination for president in the next March 2022 election, released a national security point paper which called for the US to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in South Korea. The US immediately repudiated the proposed move by the presidential hopeful. The candidate, Yoon Seok-yeol, embarrassed himself in a policy discussion forum with the other PPP candidates when his conservative rival asked him about "OPLAN 5015" (described above) and what the South Korean president's key role would be in the plan should the exigency arise. Yoon clearly had no idea what it was and embarrassed himself. Yoon, also obviously hadn't heard anything about Kim Yo-jong's recent statement and couldn't make any comments about it.
