spirals into crisisThe Taliban are begging for the release of Afghanistan's frozen funds as the country's economy falls into a crisis, Reuters reported on Friday.
"The money belongs to the Afghan nation. Just give us our own money," Ahmad Wali Haqmal, the country's finance-ministry spokesperson, said to Reuters. "Freezing this money is unethical and is against all international laws and values."
Haqmal said that in return for the money, the Taliban would respect the education of women and human rights, the report said.
Shah Mehrabi, a board member of Afghanistan's central bank, told Reuters the "situation is desperate and the amount of cash is dwindling."

...better to send humanitarian aid by way of international organizations.

(8,288 posts)4. I mean, why not? We have no issues giving Saudi Arabia a ton of aid.
And 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9/11 were Saudi Also the part where their government is basically a well funded, internationally recognized version of the Taliban.
Outside the part where they are "the enemy," I don't see a lot of good reason to keep it frozen without consideration of the US's double standards.

what Eric Prince was up to with his flights. I bet I could have found a bunch of assholes I'd turn over to the Taliban in a heartbeat.

food for citizens etc, and not given to the Taliban and in a way that the Taliban cannot get their hands on any of it.
