Russia is dusting off antique tanks from the 1940s, monitor group says, as its losses mount

in Ukraine

Russia has taken tanks from the 1940s out of storage, according to new images from a monitoring group, as it continues to lose large numbers of tanks in Ukraine.

The Conflict Intelligence Team, a group that monitors Russia's military, shared images of the antique tanks on a train.

It said that the images show T-54 tanks, which the Soviet Union started producing in 1947, moving west from the far east of Russia.

While other old tanks have been used by Russia in Ukraine, none have been as old as the T-54, the group said.

Think of them as self propelled artillery. Sure, the 100mm canons are older, but russia probably has a lot of ammo for them.

They will just park them and lob shells towards the front. Or use them as fodder to draw out at units and force the afu to use valuable javelins.

Heck, even if they just use them to tow artillery and ammo trailers they will be useful.

They won't need a lot of armor, or fancy electronics, where they will be going.

And Russia won't care any more about them then the crews inside.

even more than tanks. A friend of mine was a tank driver in the Viet Nam years, and he was trained months to learn how to operate one.
