A competitor in the Endure Batavia Triathlon in western Australia was injured today when an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), otherwise known as a drone, suddenly fell from the sky and struck her on the head.

Raija Ogden was treated at the scene for lacerations to her head, and then taken to a local hospital where Geraldton Triathlon Club president Simon Teakle said she is being treated for “minor injuries.”

The drone was being operated by New Era Photography and Film. The company’s owner, Warren Abrams, told The Geraldton Guardian that the events surrounding the drone’s crash “look suspicious.”

“We will be conducting a full investigation of what happened but it looks as though someone has hacked into our system,” he said.
