Bereaved families try to prevent Israel-Palestinian memorial event

Source: Times of Israel

Joint Tel Aviv ceremony is ‘like commemorating Eichmann on Holocaust Day,’ say protesters, urging Defense Ministry to ban entry for Palestinian participants

Over 100 bereaved Israeli families have appealed to Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon on Sunday, requesting him to prevent a joint Israeli-Palestinian remembrance ceremony on memorial day, army radio reported.

Combatants for Peace and The Parents Circle – Families Forum, two Israeli non-profits, have been holding a joint ceremony for families of Israeli and Palestinian victims on Israeli Memorial Day for the past decade. But 107 families signed a letter addressed to Ya’alon, asking him to ban the entry of the Palestinian families to Israel this week and amend the memorial day law with a regulation preventing such joint ceremonies.

“The ceremony is a provocation which degrades Memorial Day and the memory of the fallen,” read the letter. “We are shocked by the fact that the Israeli government allows a joint memorial ceremony for our enemies who took part in murdering and harming our children … and for our children living in Israel, killed simply for being Jewish.”

....for sure :

Prompted by the Samaria Settler Council, 107 families signed the letter, which asks Ya'alon to prevent Palestinian families from getting visas to enter Israel to take part in the event scheduled to take place Tuesday at the Tel Aviv Fairgrounds. The settler group is also planning a protest outside the event, according to Army Radio.

I don't like hatefests, regardless of whether they are in Tel Aviv or 70 kilometers to the south.

The Samaria Settler Council, the same group that recently released a video defaming human rights groups with anti-Semitic imagery, petitions the defense minister to stop Palestinians from participating in, and to pass a law banning an alternative Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day ceremony.

Did you see that video ???

Combatants for Peace is a movement made up of Israeli military veterans and Palestinians who were involved in the cycle of violence, all of whom chose to abandon the path of violence in favor of together ending the occupation. The Parents Circle Families Forum is an organization of over 600 Israeli and Palestinian families who lost loved ones in the conflict, and who chose a path of reconciliation. These are the people the Samaria Settlers Council is trying to stop from getting together, commemorating and mourning alongside each other. One can only hope that they fail.

I read the clip was so horrible it even got a condemnation from NGO-Monitor. However, Pamela Geller liked it.
