Netanyahu capitulates to Bennett, announces new gov’t after giving Justice to Shaked

http://www.haaretz.com/news/israel/.premium-1.655247

The announcement of the Habayit Hayehudi deal followed arduous negotiations that ended with Netanyahu capitulating to Bennett’s demands and agreeing to name Ayelet Shaked justice minister.

Shaked, a Habayit Hayehudi lawmaker, will also chair the powerful Ministerial Committee for Legislation and the Judicial Appointments Committee. She is also expected to head Justice Ministry when the next attorney general is appointed.

Habayit Hayehudi will also get the chairmanship of the Knesset Law and Constitution committee, giving the party unprecedented control over the legal system.

In addition, MK Uri Ariel will become agriculture minister, giving Habayit Hayehudi control over the World Zionist Organization’s Settlement Division, which is used to fund infrastructure for West Bank settlements. He will also be responsible for Bedouin affairs.

Also, Bennett is in charge of Israel's education system.

from the UN Security council in late summer, early fall.

The first steps towards true pariah status are likely to be painful, deservedly so.

The only good thing with this government is that it’s very weak, and that the ministers will have trouble cooperating. Hopefully, internal squabbles and resistance from the Knesset will prevent this government to actually do too much damage to Israel.

Netanyahu’s dream of an apartheid state might be difficult to achieve, so I think I’ll continue to buy blue and white for the time being.

State Department: 'This is a disappointing development as the new Israeli government has been announced – and we are concerned about it.'

By Barak Ravi and Nir Hasson

Less than 24 hours after the new Israeli government was formed, the United States yesterday objected to its controversial plan to build new Jewish homes in East Jerusalem.
