http://mondoweiss.net/2015/09/carters-punishment-newspaperFor some Jews (and evangelical Christians), the cause apparently is obvious. No, its not his genetic makeup, or the spread of a mass from his liver to his brain. Its divine punishment for his behavior toward the Jews.
Not so fast, writes Rabbi Benjamin Blech on Aish.com, the website of Orthodox Jewish outreach organization Aish HaTorah: Dont presume to know that his illness is a result of his anti-Semitic views.
The Jewish Telegraphic Agency puts out this crap? My lord. I dont understand why people are so obsessed with Islam when Zionism is in the cupboards.

(3,967 posts)All it has is a rabbi explaining that anyone who thinks carter's cancer is divine punishment is an idiot. But you wouldn't know that from mondoweiss. If they can mislead in order to demonize israel, they will.

The title is accurate. You, although are not.

(3,967 posts)The headline is in quotations, and the entire article is an editorial saying how stupid the viewpoint in the quotations is. This was in no way the paper asserting the viewpoint in quotes. This is not what the paper was saying. Other headlines in the paper are not in quotes.
It would be like if a paper wrote "Sarah Palin made the absurd assertion that 'immigrants should speak American' even though American is not a language" and the Mondoweiss equivalent says "Leading paper says 'immigrants should speak American."
Glad to clarify how the title was not accurate, and misleadingly so. Really, this is embarrassing.

(14,851 posts)What is surprising though is that it is still used here on DU.....Considering that DU is a Democratic Party supporting website it is very strange indeed....

(12,606 posts)I'm sure that they would love to shut off access, from DU anyway, to Mondoweiss; seeing how truth is such a bitter enemy to hasbarist disingenuousness.

(58,724 posts)Kidnap Denial.
Pick an extreme. On the extreme that despises Israel to death, the primary form which kidnap denial takes, is literal. "The bodies of three missing Israeli teens - Gil-Ad Shaer,16, Naftali Fraenkel, 16, and Eyal Yifrah, 19 were found today in a West Bank field near the village of Halhul, not far from where they went missing on June 12," wrote Adam Horowitz, co-editor of the avowedly anti-Israel Mondoweiss.net, in a tone passive enough to cast or reinforce doubt much in evidence in some pro-Palestinian circles - as to whether a crime had been committed at all.
The next form a litmus test for a certain form of racism on the hard left - is the idea that the three murder victims had it coming to them.
When one Mondoweiss reader asked Cant we be sympathetic to three mothers who lost their children without trampling on their graves? a second reader was quick to respond:
"No. When have the Zionist Jews been sympathetic to the mothers of dead Palestinians??? When they begin, then the feeling should be reciprocated. Until then it simply plays into the bigoted Zionist narrative.
"And more specifically, I dont have pity for these parents, I hold them in contempt. If they were not willing participants in the theft and occupation of Palestine, their kids would not be dead. But they loved their demonic ideology more than they loved their children."
When the first reader suggested "I think the appropriate response at a time like this is a simple, 'Im sorry for your loss,' the second reader replied that "since this people have never treated the Palestinians with basic human decency, I say to hell with them."

(12,606 posts)Well at least it's not a link to Kahanists.
By the way, are you still floating the idea that it wasn't Jewish extremists that murdered most of the Dawabsha family?

Talk about denial, ober.

(58,724 posts)The Kahanists doubt that the Palestinian could've been killed by Israeli Jews and the Mondoweissers doubted that the Israeli Jews could've been killed by Palestinians. In spite of much evidence to suggest the contrary in both cases.
Two sides of the same coin.
I would encourage you to take some time to reflect on that and then think twice about ever posting anything from Mondoweiss again.

Both are a Kahanist's dream.

The "leading Israeli newspaper" in question is the Jerusalem Post, and the article printed there attacks those who would hold that loathsome perspective (which they attribute to "some Jews and evangelical Christians"
It's disgusting (but not surprising) that Mondoweiss would try to spin this to mean the exact opposite.

(7,281 posts)which is possible, that is not the headline they have. Here is the headline "Some Jews have divined the real cause of Jimmy Carters cancer. " http://www.jpost.com/page.aspx?pageid=7&articleid=415271 It is always best to give the link to the original article as well to actually show it to people, not doing so leave you open to some criticism.
