Palestinian woman stabs Israeli near Jerusalem holy site: police

An 18-year-old Palestinian woman stabbed an Israeli near a contested shrine in Jerusalem on Wednesday and was then shot and wounded by the injured man, Israeli police said, the third knife attack in the city in less than a week.

Police said the attacker struck in an alleyway near the Western Wall, a Jewish prayer site abutting the al Aqsa mosque complex - Islam's third holiest shrine which Jews also revere as the vestige of their two ancient temples.

Both Israel and the U.S.-backed administration of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas have sought to calm a surge in street violence that has been exacerbated by confrontations between Palestinian protesters and armed officers at the al Aqsa site.

Four Israelis have been killed in stabbings in Jerusalem and a drive-by shooting in the occupied West Bank since Thursday, and two Palestinians have been shot dead and scores injured in clashes with security services, triggering fears of an escalation.

Middle East Monitor is the most recent entry into this alternate universe.

Everything that happens is reduced to: "Mean Jew does Horrible Thing to Innocent Palestinian for No Reason".

Mondoweiss in particular tends to highlight Jew rather than Israeli.

They are just like the Kahanist websites that do: "Mean Arab does Horrible Thing to Innocent Jew for No Reason"

For some reason, folks here are able to be repulsed by those sites, but not the others.

If someone posts something sourced to NGO Monitor or similar, the response is: how can you post that RW crap here?

But if someone (like me) expresses similar disgust at posts from Mondoweiss or Middle East Monitor, the response is: talk about the content of the article, stop deflecting by criticizing the source!

I miss the days when the I/P forum posts were limited to discussion of articles found at legitimate news sites.

Because they actually purport to be a legitimate news site, whereas Mondoweiss explicitly is just Phil's vanity blog. They are quite a bit more open and transparent about themselves. Phil even put his last name in the name of the website. Daud Abdullah does a bit more obfuscating with Middle East Monitor. They will sometimes have articles with no bylines attached and so forth.

For example their "Palestinian girl shot by Jewish settler in East Jerusalem" that was posted here has no author listed.

The first ten paragraphs are word for word identical to this article from another source:

Palestinian eyewitnesses, however, told Anadolu Agency that girl - who, they said, had not been holding a knife - was attacked for no reason by the Jewish settler.

After the girl threw the settler to the ground, Palestinian witnesses said, the latter drew a gun a shot her four times.

They put up a new article replacing the previous one on the same general topic but don't change the url. The information about the stabbing is still included in their new article, but I think the older one is gone.

The corpse of a 19-year-old religious Palestinian woman has become the subject of ridicule and cruelty online. The young woman who insisted on modestly covering her body is stripped naked for all to see. Someone writes: “With such a hair body, it’s good thing she was murdered,” “I suggest all terrorists wear normal underwear before an attack because we photograph everything.”
