http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4734724,00.html"A lot will have to do with Israel and whether or not Israel wants to make the deal - whether or not Israel's willing to sacrifice certain things," Trump told AP. "They may not be, and I understand that, and I'm OK with that. But then you're just not going to have a deal."
Pressed to explain his comments on Thursday, Trump refused to back down. "I don't know that Israel has the commitment to make it, and I don't know the other side has the commitment to make it," Trump said.
The comment drew murmurs of disapproval. He soon drew a smattering of boos after refusing to say whether Jerusalem should serve as the undivided capital of Israel, a priority for many in America's pro-Israel lobby.
Trump shrugged off the criticism. "You're not going to support me even though you know I'm the best thing that could happen to Israel," Trump said. "I know why you're not going to support me: because I don't want your money."
Wow. A republican asshole told the truth about Israel.
And the boos and whining within the GOP begin.

(58,724 posts)On Thursday, Republican front-runner Donald Trump delivered a speech before the Republican Jewish Coalition in which he essentially praised members of the organization for being a bunch of Shylocks.
Stupidly, you want to give me money, he began. But he added that youre not going to support me because I dont want your money, suggesting that Jews are unwilling to back people whose purse-strings they cant control, a classic anti-Semitic trope

Of course, leave it to Philip Weiss (Mondoweiss) to come to Trump's defense:
Trump wasnt anti-Semitic
Donald Trumps comments to the Republican Jewish Coalition yesterday about his audience including great negotiators who want to buy candidates were not anti-semitic, as a lot of liberal writers are claiming. The quips were a generalization, surely, but an accurate one.

(58,724 posts)DUers seems to generally be able to identify Trump's comments for what they are, and condemn them accordingly.
As opposed to Mondoweiss which decided to come to his defense for some reason.

(58,724 posts)I posted the headline of a relevant article from Salon and the first two paragraphs, and then the headline of a relevant article from Mondoweiss and the first paragraph. Pointing out the contrast in responses to Trump's comments.
The Salon writer believes them to have been antisemitic and the Mondoweiss writer does not.
My own view is along the lines of what the Salon writer wrote, seeing what a nasty person Trump is, generally speaking, with regard to pretty much every other group of people.

(58,724 posts)In this context, it was posted in response to the OP to show the different responses to Trump's speech from various quarters - in particular, Salon and Mondoweiss.
Thankfully, most folks on DU (as well as most other liberals and progressives writing on this topic) are criticizing Trump's remarks here.
Though some seem to want to come to his defense - possibly because he said something about Israel that they found appealing and so are desirous to excuse his other, potentially antisemitic comments.

(45,850 posts)The Republican front runner candidate Donald Trump , described the Kingdom of Saudi ArabiaUnited States's closest Arab ally as a 'fat, and milky' cow and added there is no interest for the United States to support the despotic regime of Saudi and sooner or later should an uprising erupt, we must side with that nation's democratic ambitions.
Mr. Trump continued that he was "definitely not a big fan" of Saudi Arabia, and that America has endured too much to "support Saudi terrorists".
"Well, you know, the primary reason we're with the Saudi Arabia for the time being is because we need the oil. Now we almost don't need their oil so much, we should stop supporting Saudi dictators," AFP quoted Mr. Trump.

Even here on DU , a Democratic Party supporting website..... When clearly Mondoweiss is not only bigoted hate site but has moved firmly into the Republican Party camp....
