Greece set to recognize a Palestinian state

Greece is set to recognize a Palestinian state in a parliamentary vote to be attended by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday, a government source said.

A solemn ceremony will accompany the vote as Greece joins dozens of other countries that accord recognition to Palestine, the source said.

Abbas arrived in Athens on Sunday ahead of the vote and was set to meet with President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Monday.

Last week, the Greek parliament's foreign affairs committee unanimously approved a motion to recognize Palestine.
Tsipras travelled to Israel last month when he met with both Abbas and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

What is said in the open vs behind closed doors is what is important.

And if Israel keeps going down the twisted path that it is who knows how long it will survive?

I don't relish that future.

did to their country.

The rest of the Middle-East may have negative attitudes towards Jews and Israel, but they're not really blaming Israel for all their problems. Israel gave Lebanon the Palestinian refugees, the civil war, the SLA, Hezbollah, the Israeli invasion, the bombings etc - at least that's what many Lebanese seem to believe.

In retrospect, Israel maybe could have done things differently, perhaps.

Of course, Syria occupied Lebanon for almost 30 years, but people seem to not want to remember that.

And most of the Middle East does blame Jews and Israel for their problems.

It is the singular public relations triumph of the various dictatorships that have ruled those countries for decades.
