Abbas: Terror wave is a 'legitimate peaceful protest'

Palestinian Authority (PA) chairman Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday reiterated his opposition to recognizing Israel as a Jewish state, and also referred to the current terror wave as a “legitimate peaceful protest”.

He made the comments at the start of a meeting of the Revolutionary Council of his Fatah organization, attended by members of the Fatah Central Committee....

....Abbas called the current terror wave, which Palestinian Arabs have referred to as the “Al-Quds Intifada”, as a "popular peaceful uprising” which, he claimed, was initiated in response to the behavior of the "occupation", Israel's non-commitment to implement signed agreements, damage to the holy places of Islam and Christianity, arrests, house demolitions, killing of Palestinians, expulsions, closures on Palestinian Arab towns and the “siege” on Gaza . He further declared that the Palestinians will not comply with the agreements as long as Israel does not implement them, adding that the PA is awaiting Israel's response to its demands and will act accordingly. He also once again expressed his strong opposition to recognizing Israel as a Jewish state.

Abbas has consistently refused to condemn the terrorist attacks carried out by his own people against Israelis, claiming they are the result of Palestinian “frustration”.

Speaking at the 16th session of the Fatah Revolutionary Council, in remarks quoted by the Maan News Agency, Abbas said that the recent wave of terror attacks, which he dubbed a "peaceful popular awakening," came as a response to the "actions of the occupation," the violation of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, and the lack of Israeli commitment to signed agreements.

Abbas

Official PA TV News
Abbas’ statement at a meeting with “activists for the defense of the Noble Sanctuary” (i.e., the Temple Mount)
PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas: “We bless you, we bless the Murabitin (those carrying out Ribat, religious conflict/war to protect land claimed to be Islamic), we bless every drop of blood that has been spilled for Jerusalem, which is clean and pure blood, blood spilled for Allah, Allah willing. Every Martyr (Shahid) will reach Paradise, and everyone wounded will be rewarded by Allah. The Al-Aqsa [Mosque] is ours, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre is ours, and they have no right to defile them with their filthy feet. We will not allow them to, and we will do everything in our power to protect Jerusalem.”

Jibril Rajoub, leader within Fatah movement on TV:

During his interview, Rajoub was challenged by the host about the prospect of renewing suicide bombings inside Israel. His opposition to those was based on public relations, not ethics, he made clear.

[font color = "blue"]“The international community does not accept buses blowing up in Tel Aviv,” he said. “But when a settler or soldier is stabbed while on occupied land, nobody asks any questions. We must struggle in a way that keeps the world with us.”
