TAMOUN, West Bank - An arrest raid by undercover Israeli soldiers disguised as vegetable vendors ignited rare clashes in the northern West Bank on Tuesday, residents said, leaving at least eight Palestinians wounded.
Israeli army raids into Palestinian areas to seize activists and militants are fairly common. The raids are normally coordinated with Palestinian security forces, and suspects are usually apprehended without violence.
The clashes began early Tuesday after Israeli forces disguised as merchants in a vegetable truck arrested one man. Regular army forces then entered the town, prompting youths to hurl rocks to try to prevent more arrests.
Israeli forces fired tear gas, rubber bullets and live ammunition as youths set tires and bins on fire to block the passage of military vehicles. In several hours of clashes, dozens of masked youths hid behind makeshift barriers, hurling rocks and firebombs at soldiers.

(14,591 posts)Increasing the size of illegal settlements in the West Bank and Gaza, kicking Arabs out of areas of Jerusalem for new Orthodox churches and raids into Palestinian territory are not the actions of a country looking to avert war.

(90,061 posts)I'm thinking about the political leadership in the various countries in the region and their current situation, and it's not pretty, and Bibi, Bibi is making his move.
Tempest
(14,591 posts)The conservatives in Israel are too strong, especially among the Orthodox.
And Bibi has made it clear he wants violent confrontations.

(14,851 posts)Settlements in Gaza ?
There is a lot of knowledgable people who post in this group, let me help yours..
There ain't no Israeli settlements in Gaza .
Tempest
(14,591 posts)But just a few years ago there were 21 Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip.
They could very easily be brought back, and Bibi is the one who would do it.

(14,851 posts)I can't think of anyone on either side of this issue that would agree to your "analysis".
Tempest
(14,591 posts)And as valid as any other one.
Maybe more so considering Bibi's actions and policies towards Gaza and the West Bank.
holdencaufield
(2,927 posts)Actually not -- a valid argument is one that is formed based on knowledge of the subject which, by your own admission, you have little
"Maybe more so considering Bibi's actions and policies towards Gaza and the West Bank."
Or less so, when you freely admit you know nothing of those policies

(25,699 posts)Though geographically separate, Gaza and the west bank are the same nation; think about how mainland US regards say, Alaska or Hawaii. What if, I dunno, Japan were to launch an attack against either, how do you think the mainland would take it? They shouldn't care I guess, since hey, it wasn't like, Iowa getting bombed, right? Just some flippy-shit pineapple islands, and some place called "Attu" where nobody lives anyway, right? Let it slide!
Settlements are in Palestine.

(14,851 posts)That Israel was "kicking Arabs out of areas of Jerusalem for new Orthodox churches "
Link it up if it exists... This should be interesting !
Tempest
(14,591 posts)Instead Arab leases are not being renewed in the area the church wants to expand on and eminent domain is used on other Arab properties.
Link it up? You attempt to come across as knowledgeable on the Middle East, yet you haven't seen or heard about this story? Sorry, not your water boy.
I also find your screen name interesting considering the history of one King David Hotel.

(2,927 posts)Are you accusing them of "stealing" Palestinian land to build their churches? Are Greek Orthodox Xtians considered settlers?
Violet_Crumble
(35,961 posts)btw, I didn't see Scoot accuse anyone of stealing anything, so I'm not sure why yr firing off those questions at them. All I saw was them point out that there are Greek Orthodox Christians in Jerusalem...
holdencaufield
(2,927 posts)... to actually read the thread.
Tempest made two, rather uninformed, statements ...
"The conservatives in Israel are too strong, especially among the Orthodox." and "Increasing the size of illegal settlements in the West Bank and Gaza, kicking Arabs out of areas of Jerusalem for new Orthodox churches"
... in which he clearly confused or cannot distinguish between Orthodox Xtians and Orthodox Jews. When Scootaloo came unsolicited to his aid I had to assume that he either agreed with Tempest's assertion Orthodox Xtians are stealing Palestinian land or was also unable to tell the difference between the two.
Violet_Crumble
(35,961 posts)And I've spotted correctly that it's not Tempest who's made rather uninformed statements. They don't appear to have confused Orthodox Christians and Orthodox Jews, and there's some creative interpretation going on from what I can see...
I think yr conjuring up things out of thin air that just don't exist. What happened was Scoot pointed out to you that there are Greek Orthodox Christians in Jerusalem, something you appeared to be confused about. Not sure where you get the bizarre idea that they're coming to anyone's aid.
Scootaloo
(25,699 posts)holdencaufield
(2,927 posts)... go ahead. I'll keep a look out for Orthodox settlers building their churches. Maybe they're Hassids for Jeebus.
Scootaloo
(25,699 posts)Now there's a funny thought. Then, I have met Christians who try to be more Jewish than Hassids, so maybe there are Hassids who act more Christian than Fundies?
Seriously, ever met these guys? Tend to throw glottal in where there shouldn't be glottals, so "Jerusalem" comes out like "Yegh-hroogh-shagh-leghem." Would hteir Hassidic counterparts try to pronounce everything in a ridiculous southern accent? Would it become "Jay-RYOO-sah-layme"?
I figure they're just a very strange variety of cosplayer.

(25,699 posts)The claim is that Israeli officials are confiscating East Jerusalem Arab homes under eminent domain to make way for a new orthodox church. I've got no idea of the veracity of that, but Tempest says it's in the Jerusalem Post, so, here i am waiting to see a Jerusalem Post article about it provided by Tempest.
I do not think its fact and nor do I think a link exists.

Agents dressed as Palestinians, accompanied by army units, entered the industrial zone in the city and surrounded a bakery and number of shops.
During a raid on the home of 93-year-old Amneh Hisnawi, who was alone in the house, Israeli army dogs attacked the elderly woman, requiring her evacuation to Israeli hospital.
.............................
He said the raid on Jenin was to arrest a Palestinian suspected of terror activity. Military sources said the suspect was not at home, so the force withdrew.
During the operation, around 500 Palestinians hurled rocks, firebombs, and burned tires, and forces responded with riot dispersal means, the spokesman said.
Fadi Ijawi, 23, was wounded in the leg by live bullet and taken to a Palestinian hospital, a Ma'an reporter said. Dozens of Palestinians also suffered tear gas inhalation.
