UN: Israeli settlements 'violate Palestinian rights'

UN: Israeli settlements 'violate Palestinian rights'

Israeli settlements in the occupied territories violate Palestinians' human rights in ways designed to drive them off the land, a UN report states.

The report says settlements displace Palestinians, destroy their crops and property, and subject them to violence.

It is likely further to damage relations between the UN Human Rights Council and Israel, analysts say.

Israel refused to co-operate with the inquiry by three UN researchers, and says the UN body is biased.

The French, Pakistani and Botswanan fact-finders said Israel was "committing serious breaches" of humanitarian law and demanded the government of Israel cease all settlement activities.

Well, god gave that land to them way way way back when (well, they had to kick people off it first according to the bible) so why should it be any different now?

It is their land, says so in that book I have sitting here on my desk - that invisible guy up in the sky handed it to them (well, not really, a lot their people and others - innocent men, women, and children died over it, but still - the book says it is theirs)

Hell, I think we should finish kicking the Indians out here. God wanted us to have this land, not them.

Sadly, some will see this not as an issue about human rights but about biblical ones. I won't say much more cause god might punish me for not getting behind Israel 100% (and others here will tell me I hate Jews, etc and so on because that is easier than discussing issues). Those Palestinians have it coming. How dare they live on some land someone else had centuries ago??

As a great American once said, "There's not a square foot of land on earth that's in the hands of its rightful owner."

Though he was undoubtedly right about that, I have a feeling this particular theft is one for which there will eventually have to be costly restitution paid.

Maybe with the recent election, the peace process can be reinvigorated.

Imagine a world with Israelis and Palestinians living side by side at peace with one another, each with their own independent state.

The time is long past for this to happen.

The colonies have to go. The land has to be given back.
