Israeli Company Targeted by Boycotters Reports Huge Sales Increase

It has been a break out year for SodaStream, a fact that can be reflected in a 51% increase in full year revenue, to 436.3 million, reported by the company last month. The numbers were positive all-around in fact: fourth-quarter revenue increased 55% to $132.9 million, and the company sees 2013 revenue and adjusted net income improving by 25 percent, with half of the sales growth coming from the U.S.

The success may partly be thanks to the controversy surrounding an ad it had intended to run during the Super Bowl, but that was rejected by CBS. The company still ran a different ad during the sporting event, and reaped loads of press from the controversy. It’s also been getting mainstream kudos from media outlets such as Fast Company magazine, which named it one the top innovators of 2013.

Not bad for a company that has been demonized by such anti-Israel organizations as CodePink and the BDS movement — this despite the fact that it employs 500 West Bank Arabs and 400 Palestinian Arabs living in east Jerusalem.

Leave it to BDS to boycott a company making soda drinking environmentally friendly.

I used to never pay attention to where something was made except to buy a US made product over foriegn made ones unless there was no viable alternative. Ever since the calls for boycotts and BDS on Israel started I will now also buy Israeli products over other foriegn made ones. The BDS list has actually been helpfull in identifying Israeli products I should buy. I have read a number of articles that say the calls for BDS has actually helped sales of Israeli products.

... outside Max Brenner chocolate shops in Melbourne, Australia, the former PM of Australia, Kevin Rudd, had this to say about BDS.

“I don't think in 21st-century Australia there is a place for the attempted boycott of a Jewish business.”

He was absolutely right -- Breaking the windows of a Jewish-owned business because you believe them to be involved in some sort of evil conspiracy isn't the work of progressives. We all know who's work that is.

I will go out of my way to buy products made in Israel. The BDS movement has been nothing but a total failure. One day the Americans involved will realize they're in a tiny minority.

...and probably totally stupid question. Do you have one of these? Can I just carbonate the water? I drink seltzer in the summer instead of water. Don't drink soda though. If I get one of these and just use the CO2 canisters without using the syrups are these guys going to get all upset?

however, the carbonation is not as good as a proper post mix machine. I have a commercial Wunderbar soda gun set up in my kitchen, thanks to a cousin who is in that line of work.

The good thing is the carbonation on the Wunderbar is so good, I dont even have to cool the water, the CO2 does it for me. I have six boxes of post mix syrup, I've even got Inca Kola and Diet Inca Kola. Who else has Inca Kola on tap in their house? Holy Jesus I am cool. The only downer is that I worry about the cylinder leaking C02 and killing my entire family while we sleep.

Compared to that, a Sodastream is a bit like a $40 drip coffee machine or pod machine up against proper soda. A bit shit really.

Plus, at least here, the post mix syrups and CO2 cartridges mean that Sodastream works out to about 60c a litre. Not too cheap, then.

They're the ones trying to get a boycott going against this company (which is a total failure).
