Op-ed: International media outlets covering Israeli-Palestinian violence in a very peculiar way
.....To many, the picture of a crying Arab father lifting his lifeless infant toward the sky will remain an image epitomizing Israeli injustice during the aggression initiated by Hamas in November 2012. The BBC reporters photograph depicting this personal tragedy has received an enormous amount of international attention leading to an almost unconditional outcry against the rules of engagement used by the IDF during Operation Pillar of Defense. Little has been said when a UN-mandated investigation concluded that the death of the young kid had been caused by a rocket misfired by Hamas that was originally aimed at Israeli civilian populations.
The incident illustrates that, regardless of the accuracy of the information, international media outlets and commentators have been covering stories related to violent engagements between Israelis and Palestinians in a very peculiar way. The basic tenets of this misinformation campaign are fundamentally linked to the way pro-Palestinian lobbies are interested in portraying the conflict. Despite the actual situation, the Palestinians in the story are to be presented as victims or potential victims, while the Israelis will invariably embody a single superior force impermeable to suffering. The most important part of this policy lies in stressing the fact that Palestinian actions are always justified. Even given the blatancy of the Palestinian aggression, the media do not hesitate to persist with such terms as occupation, apartheid or embargo when highlighting the developments in the region......
.....On the other hand, little attention is paid to the violence and hatred that the Palestinians living in Gaza, Judea and Samaria express on a daily basis against Israelis. Almost no one has addressed the fact that, in mid-March, belligerent Palestinians severely wounded an Israeli toddler by throwing stones at the car she was in, an act that anywhere else in the world would have been dubbed as criminal, to say the least.
In addition to that, pro-Palestinian actions worldwide are far from deserving any victim-like definition. Countless university demonstrations and conferences are held with such a tone and orientation, that free speech is pushed out at the benefit of hours-long rage against Israel following the usual procedures predetermined beforehand. On the same line, the disruption of concerts and Israeli artistic performances in numerous locations does not bode well for dialogue and bilateral understanding.
As a result, these actions by pro-Palestinian groups reflect a bitter reality: Peace is not their direct objective. In their view, the delegitimization of Israel is the first step required to weaken it internationally, and only when the Jewish state looks like a demon will it be possible to start peace talks. In other words, these lobbies and associations are continuing their destructive actions by other non-conventional and, most of the time, underhanded means.....

(30,099 posts)As President Obama finished his first historic visit to Israel, the time has come to draw conclusions and elaborate positions over what has been achieved during those three days.
It is certain that the reconciliation between Turkey and the Jewish State will remain a major foreign policy success for the White House, while sides will be taken regarding the events that have marked the evolving relations between the Israel and the United States. Open discussions in all sectors are more than legitimate, yet a point should remain in the back of everybodys mind, the general good will and partnership expressed by President Obama should not overshadow a simple reality: Palestinians dont deserve a State regardless of what statesmen and commentators have been saying.
The verb to deserve justly expresses the complacent view a great majority of decision makers and analysts have taken in regard to the Palestinian issue. The concept of deserving puts the Palestinians in a position of complete rightfulness, as if they were a child addressing their father. By declaring that the Palestinians should deserve a State, President Obama has bypassed all historical common sense over the formation of nation states and has apparently forgotten the reasons that make the creation of such a political entity impossible.
The extent of this error is extremely grave as these words cannot and will not end up with a positive diplomatic solution and will only exacerbate the Palestinians will to conduct violent operations.
In order to understand why the Palestinians dont deserve a State it is necessary to deconstruct this idea in order to dismiss it on all the different levels in a more persuasive manner.
Palestinians dont deserve a State because they refused everything that has been offered to them in the past. From 1948 to the Georges W. Bushs peace efforts the Palestinian leaders and their society always saw the full creation of a State neighboring the Jewish State as a national defeat since in their view it consists in the recognition and acceptance of Israel. The current PA drive for statehood simply consists in the continuation of the Arab fight against Israel by non-armed means.
Palestinians dont deserve a State because they are not interested in abandoning terrorism. Every time Israel has given the Palestinians, either in Gaza, Judea or Samaria a tangible degree of independence, the local populations have chosen to use this greater flexibility to launch attacks against Israeli civilians. The best case supporting this view lies in the effects of Sharons unilateral withdrawal from Gaza. Rocket attacks, suicide bombings and stone throwing are all elements of the same reality: as soon as Israel lowers its guards, Palestinians see in it a possibility of killing civilians.
