New Gaza textbooks focus on resistance

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Hamas-run government in the Gaza Strip has introduced amended textbooks for grades eight, nine and 10, adding lessons about various methods of Palestinian resistance, a Ma'an reporter said.

The first three chapters of the books focus on pre-1948 Palestine, overviewing major Palestinian cities now under Israeli control.

They also include a history of the 1929 Buraq Uprising in addition to Izz Addin al-Qassam's armed resistance movement against Zionism and the British Mandate for Palestine.

In the new eighth grade textbook, students are taught about the Israeli occupation and everyday methods of resistance. A later chapter focuses on military resistance - including details about rockets fired into Israel from Gaza - and illustrates that modern weaponry has become capable of "confusing the occupation."

balance ....

Violence and incitement in education should be condemned on, and from every side. But clinging to and focusing only on the worst of the ‘other side’ can be even worse than incitement.

It must be nice to have a supposed "liberal" publication running interference for them. Seriously, I'm sure the author means well, but her argument is disingenuous at best. First, if the worst of the other side is the mainstream, as it is from Hamas, then of course you emphasize that. It would be a lie to stress the words of people who have no official standing, no constituency and no say in policy. More important, people need to understand how Hamas is preparing a new generation of rejectionists. Finally, her attempt equate the official hateful Hamas line with what is said in Israel is just false.

I guess that's helpful.

I mean I'm sure NYC-born Dahlia Scheindlin who now lives in Tel Aviv knows more about Palestinians than the actual Palestinians who write for Ma'an news.

I mean Dahlia does have a Master of Theological Studies degree from Harvard Divinity School after all!

Except what we do all the time. I wonder if this nitwit understands that they are copying us, our methods, when they re-write history for political purposes.
