Why Europe blames Israel for the Holocaust: Post-1945 anti-Semitism

The acclaimed British novelist Howard Jacobson opened his speech at the B’nai B’rith World Center in Jerusalem last October with piercing sarcasm: “The question is rhetorical. When will Jews be forgiven the Holocaust? Never.”

However, there has been a shift in the underpinnings of anti-Semitism. Israel has become the collective Jew among the nations, as the late French historian Léon Poliakov said about the new metamorphosis of Jew-hatred.

Jacobson was piggy-backing on the eye-popping insight of the Israel psychoanalyst Zvi Rex, who reportedly said: “The Germans will never forgive the Jews for Auschwitz.”

The anti-Semitic logic at work here is Europe’s pathologically guilt-filled response to the Holocaust, which, in short, is to shift the onus of blame to the Jews to cleanse one’s conscience. Two German-Jewish Marxist philosophers – Max Horkheimer and Theodor W. Adorno – coined an esoteric sociological term for what unfolded in post-Shoah Germany: Guilt-defensiveness anti-Semitism.

On the one hand, Adorno and Horkheimer may come across as kitchen-sink psychology. On the other hand, the explanatory power behind anti-Semitic guilt animating hatred of Jews and Israel can provide a window into Europe’s peculiar obsession with the Jewish state.

Why not just accuse everybody of "Post-1945 anti-Semitism?" It would be easier, right? R. Daneel Olivaw Feb 2014 #11

But really, this article is just... dumb. All the jpost article gives is tawdry exploitation, unsupported assertions that beg the reader to believe them simply because they're asserted, and the only slightest sliver of evidence is that the EU wants goods produced in occupied territory to be called such (the article calls it "disputed territory" which is about as intellectually void as Ken Ham on a daiquiri bender.)

Just another shitty Zionist attempt to scare Jews shitless by telling htem fairy tales about how the entire world is out to get them - because France wants to know if the carrots it receives are from occupied palestinian territory. THAT'S JUST LIKE AUSCHWITZ! - or so the article would have you believe.

You can do better. Yes, even you can achieve a higher bar than this, David. I mean hell, the Lemur Queen could scrape her nails across the blackboard of higher standards here.

The article mentions a few individuals kvetching about anti-Semitism and that translates to Europe wanting to dismantle Israel: that it is fixated on turning Israel into a human punching bag?

Sorry, all. I should have waited until I got home to read the full article. It didn't disappoint.

Ah me. Perhaps the whiny brigade could turn that perfect crystalline lens towards the apartheid state and do a reality check on how poor suffering Israel's human rights abuses, of a captive people, are turning out.

"Wanting to dismantle Israel." "human punching bag."

A perceived fear by Israel is something entirely different from the practice it has manifested by actually dismantling Palestinian land and using the population as a punching bag.

It always amuses me when the abusers accuse others of abusing them.

Sorry again for not having the chance to read the entire article until I returned home. What a hoot. Same old shit.
