Right-wing Israelis tour Aqsa compound

JERUSALEM (Ma’an) – Dozens of right-wing Israelis including Yeshiva students entered the al-Aqsa Mosque compound Tuesday morning via the Moroccan Gate escorted by Israeli police officers.

Witnesses told Ma’an that more than 100 Jews entered the compound in groups and toured its courtyards while Muslim worshipers and Sharia students shouted "Allah Akbar."

The Al-Aqsa Foundation for Endowment and Heritage highlighted in a statement that its appeal came in response to calls by rabbis and scholars to Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu to approve the construction of a Jewish synagogue on parts of the compound.

The synagogue, according to the foundation quoting a statement signed by several rabbis and scholars, will be built temporarily and should be demolished to be replaced by the Jewish Temple.

The appeal also comes to defend the mosque against ultra-Orthodox Jewish organizations which plan to slaughter Passover sacrifices in al-Aqsa compound which they call the Temple Mount on April 14.
