Talking Points: Injustices in the West Bank Planning System
27 April 2014
So what exactly happens, in terms of the planning and construction system, in most of the area of the West Bank which is contiguous and available for development (Area C)? Whats the problem with planning there and why are we petitioning the High Court of Justice against this system?
Less than 1% of Area C, the contiguous area of the West Bank, is designated for Palestinian development, compared to 70% of Area C located within the settlements regional councils.
Contrary to all reasonable Israeli interests, a military planning system exists in the West Bank which interferes in Palestinian villages, oversees thousands of legal procedures and demolishes hundreds of homes, all funded by the Israeli taxpayer.
4 years after the Israeli military took control over the West Bank, the local village planning system, based on Jordanian law, wascitymasterplan-revisedtext dissolved, without any law passing in the Knesset, and not based on any security necessity.
In 1971, a military order imposed a military planning system on the Palestinians and established a civilian planning system for the settlements two planning systems, separate according to ethnicity, in the same area.
