Leader: Hamas will not oppose PM in new govt

BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) – The Hamas movement will not oppose that prime minister of the Palestinian Authority Rami Hamdallah or any other personality heading the coming unity government, a top party official said Sunday.

Deputy chief of Hamas’ politburo Mousa Abu Marzouq highlighted that the coming government “isn’t President Mahmoud Abbas’ government, but rather a government of national unity and agreement, and this is what we have signed with Fatah.”

In a meeting with writers and analysts organized by the Gaza-based thinktank PalThink for Strategic Studies, Abu Marzouq said the unity government “isn’t political at all”.

He added that if the government’s agenda would include possible recognition of Israel, many people would avoid joining that government which is expected to deal with sensitive and broad issues.
