Obama reaffirms U.S. support for Israel's Gaza incursion

'No nation should accept rockets fired into its borders,' Obama says of Israel's ground push

U.S. President Barack Obama is encouraging Israel to try to minimize civilian deaths in its ground push into Hamas-ruled Gaza.

Obama said Friday he talked to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the Gaza operation and reaffirmed Israel's right to defend itself.

He told reporters during a White House press conference on the Malysia Airlines crash that no nation should accept rockets being fired into its borders.

There are those that say if we weren't in there it would be the Saudis, Russians, Chinese, Iranians, Iraqis, etc. But they are already there.

We should stop all military assistance and limit our help to humanitarian needs. We should pull back our missile shield from Israel and let them figure it out on their own.

Unless you put two opposing factions in a locked room with no water, no toilet and no food, they continue to fight. When they both realize they have no other options than to come to some kind of compromise that lets both of them live, problem solved.

But if the Israelis and Palestinians want to kill one another let them go for it. It really needs to be their choice.

We need to back off and let them figure this out for themselves.
