Israel Gaza Crisis: German Protesters Chant 'Gas the Jews' in Anti-Israel Rallies

Berlin authorities have ordered pro-Gaza demonstrators to stop chanting anti-semitic messages, after protesters were reportedly heard shouting 'Gas the Jews'.

Sizeable anti-Israel rallies have been held in the German capital, with people taking to the streets allegedly chanting anti-semitic slogans. Some of the demonstrations are said to be organised by Muslim immigrants and neo-Nazi groups.

The Berlin authorities are also investigating anti-semitic behaviour by a radical Imam in the city, after a video uploaded by Israeli daily Haaretz showed an Imam calling for the obliteration of Jews, telling his followers to "kill them to the very last one".

Condemning the anti-semitism, Dieter Graumann, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, was quoted by AFP as saying: "We are currently experiencing in this country an explosion of evil and violent hatred of Jews, which shocks and dismays all of us."

Rhetoric like that is unhelpful. uncalled for, and offensive. Though I condemn Israel's actions, and believe it's very creation was a violation of Human Rights, the fact remains we are where we are, and need to find a way foreward, not backward.

Even if Israel steals the small bit of remaining Palestinian land, there isn't enough room for all the world's Jews. Those outside will PREDICTABLY remain targets. Those inside will have to live in a fortified self-imposed prison. I don't see that as an attractive solution, but if it's what RW Jews want, then knock yourselves out.

Keep in mind the statement issued by the 1885 Convention of Rabbis: " We are not a nation, we are a religion". When actions committed by the established by decree nation threaten the well-being of the religion elsewhere, then that nation should change course, if reasonable minds prevail.

It is truly horrible that anger against Israeli policies spawns attacks of any kind on Jews around the world, but it is especially awful when it happens in Germany.

And let me add, as a severe critic of current Israeli policies, that I believe there is a strong undercurrent of antisemitism in the world, and the current events in Gaza are providing some very nasty people with an excuse to unleash their nastiness against Jews elsewhere in the world.
