Hamas says it's executed Palestinians as Israeli spies in Gaza war

Hamas said on Thursday it had executed several Palestinians on suspicion of helping Israeli forces during the month-long Gaza war.

"The spies were executed after they were caught red-handedly informing on the whereabouts of the resistance (or) disrupting the work of resistance men and defusing ambushes prepared against the enemy," Al-Majd, a pro-Hamas website, quoted an unnamed member of the Islamist group's security services as saying.

It did not elaborate on the number of people executed.

Gaza officials say the war, which has been halted by an Egyptian-brokered truce that is set to expire on Friday, has killed at least 1,874 Palestinians, most of them civilians. Israel says 64 of its soldiers and three civilians have been killed since fighting began on July 8, after a surge in Palestinian rocket salvoes.

What an odd coincidence that almost all of these supposed "spies" are reportedly Fatah members.

They don't like Hamas, or they didn't anyway, they seem to be buddies for the moment. bemildred Aug 2014 #4
I'm missing the part where that makes them pro-israel. FBaggins Aug 2014 #5

The had a little war a while back where Fatah tried to take over Gaza and got kicked out instead.

Sounds more likely that Hamas is trying to consolidate what power they have left and killing off the opposition... using the convenient lie that they're enemy sympathizers.

Doesn't bode well for their supposed "unity" government.

You can entertain whatever fantasies you like.
The fate of the Unity government will depend on the outcome of the current war.

Better?

Egypt/PA/Fatah/etc are in no way friends of Israel.

They just correctly recognize that Hamas is not actually good for Palestinians.
