Mourners in Gaza were seen carrying black flags of the bloody Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terror group at a funeral on Sunday for one of two terrorists Israel targeted in an airstrike on Friday, Israels Maariv daily reported.
Analysts said this was the first such open sign of local support for the group (also known as the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant), which is engaged in fierce battles for control of Iraq, and in Syria, in order to create a unified Islamic caliphate.
Israeli and other western intelligence services have warned that the groups influence is spreading and may have set down roots in the coastal enclave.

Until the people of Gaza have hope in their lives, nothing good will happen.

(15,480 posts)The black flag is the symbol of the Jewish ultra-Orthodox, anti-Zionist group, Neturei Karta. It is flown as a sign of mourning over the creation of the State of Israel, most commonly on Israeli Independence Day.
Enormous black flags wave in the background. The marchers sob bitterly along the entire route. We do not recognize the rule of the heretics, reads a huge sign borne aloft by two teenagers. Zionism is a Holocaust screams another enormous sign. The day the enemy overcame us, shouts one of the communitys elders in a raspy voice. The procession advances and the heartbroken cries grow louder and louder, until they can be heard from far away. The final stop is Sabbath Square, where they will hold the traditional burning of the flags and conclude the ceremonies mourning Independence Day..
The colorful figure of Rabbi Yisrael Meir Hirsch stands out among the leaders of the procession. Hirsch takes pride in his family lineage, being the son of Rabbi Moshe Hirsch, the former Neturei Karta leader who was a confidante of late PLO leader Yasser Arafat. Moshe Hirsch served as the Minister for Jewish Affairs in the Palestinian cabinet

(26,060 posts)and you have no problem with that. They're supporting an organization that is marching across Syria and now Iraq killing, terrorizing anyone in their path who will not submit to their form of radical Islam and you have no problem with those who support that. I'm watching DU throw ALL minorities under the bus, ignoring an organization that has killed tens of thousand at the very least in order to keep up their antipathy towards Israel. And I'm the one that gets accused of not being a liberal.

(34,589 posts)Just as I think that displaying the Confederate flag is a bad thing to do, displaying the ISIS flag is bad. If it, in fact, happened.

(26,060 posts)is completely beside the point. The fact they're supporting an organization that even al aqeda wants nothing to do with is extremely disturbing...at least to me.

(6,960 posts)There isn't any video of 'ISIS Now Openly Operating in Gaza Flags Seen Waving at Funeral'.
There isn't any corroboration for the claim.
The right-wing Israeli government, however, wants a further radicalization of Palestinians in Gaza to serve as a rationalization for its colonialist behavior. (And, unfortunately, there will undoubtedly always be a very small group of Palestinian militants who will oblige them.)

"I understand now that people turn on CNN and see the flag associated with jihad, but that's not the intention of that flag at all," Dunaway said. "It says 'There is only one god, Allah, and the prophet Muhammad is his messenger.' It's not meant to be a symbol of hate. Islam is all about unity and peace. I am not a part of any group like that, and I'm not anti-American. I love my country, but I am a Muslim."
(...)
"Tomorrow it might be an L.A. Kings flag," Dunaway said, adding that he often rotates them. "Every Muslim uses that black flag. You'll find it in any mosque in world. I am an American citizen and I love my country, but I am also a Muslim and I use that flag to say Im a Muslim."

(572 posts)Man who thought flag was ISIS apologizes for viral tweet; flag-owner forgives him
Source: Newark Star-Ledger
The man who tweeted a photo of a Garwood home flying what he believed was an ISIS flag has apologized to the flag-owner, saying he now understands it is a symbol of the man's Islamic faith, although it has been misappropriated by the Iraq jihadist organization.
Marc Leibowitz tweeted the photo of the flag flying outside Mark Dunaway's (street name redacted in DU) home on Tuesday and the tweet went viral. It has been retweeted more than 600 times as of Thursday afternoon, and has sparked outrage and even threats directed at Dunaway.
After learning of the viral tweet Tuesday evening, Dunaway voluntarily removed the flag and explained he flies it as a symbol of his Muslim faith and not an endorsement of ISIS. ... Leibowitz said he regretted invading Dunaway's privacy if the flag was hung with innocent intentions and called him on Wednesday evening to apologize.
... Khurrum Ali, civil rights director for the NJ Council on American-Islamic Relations, told NJ.com he was initially concerned Dunaway had been forced to take down the flag, but later learned from Garwood Police Chief Bruce Underhill that Dunaway had removed it voluntarily for his own safety.

(15,480 posts)The headline is bogus in that the video referred to has nothing to do with the rest of the headline, as has been pointed out to you, yet you ignored it (post and run) and failed to correct it.

(14,851 posts)The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isis) has told the Palestinian people that it is "only a matter of time" before they reach Palestine to join the fight against "barbaric Jews".
The Islamic militant group, who last month announced a "Caliphate" straddling the Iraqi-Syrian border and renamed themselves the Islamic State, released the provocative statement on an Isis-affiliated Twitter account.
"It is only matter of time and patience before it [Islamic State] reaches Palestine to fight the barbaric Jews and kill those of them hiding behind the gharqad trees - the trees of the Jews," the statement read.
