Gaza Changed Everything | Ramzy Baroud

Things Cannot Stay the Same after Israeli Genocide in Gaza

Ramzy Baroud

Aug. 21, 2014

After every bloody episode of violence perpetrated by Israel, media spin doctors are often deployed with one grand mission: to absolve Israel of any responsibility in their acts of carnage.

Not only do these apologists demonize Palestinians, but anyone who dares to take a stand on their behalf. The main staple of this Israeli strategy has been blaming the victim. Such a tactic is nothing new in the way the so-called “Arab-Israeli conflict” has been presented in Western media, whose narrative has been much closer to that of Israeli official and media discourses than that of Palestinians. This continued despite the decades-long military occupation, successive wars, and countless massacres.

Specifically, since the Israeli siege on Gaza, following the democratic elections that brought Hamas to power in January 2006, Israel needed all of its hasbara savvy, alongside that of its backers in western countries to explain why a population has been brutalized for making a democratic choice. The sheer amount of deception involved in the cleverly knitted story which purposely mixed between Hamas and al-Qaeda (as they once did between late Yasser Arafat and Hitler), among other ruses was a new low, even by Israel’s own standards.

While the media demonized Hamas, the resistance and all the other “bad” Palestinians who voted for the movement, it intentionally ignored the fascism that was taking over Israeli society.

which is bad news for the Palestinians.

The reality is that ISIS and the evolving mess in Syria and Iraq has put Gaza and the Palestinians on the back burner. The atrocities happening and those that are certain to happen will make the past two months in Gaza look like a walk in the park. Anything associated with radically violent Islam will be viewed with great suspicion by the Arab world and that means Hamas and their supporters are more isolated than ever.

It is not too hard to even think that Israel right now is considered more important as a military bulwark against the spread of ISIS than Palestinian aspirations for statehood. The Palestinians have never been more than a weapon to use against Israel by the other Arab nations. What happens when they decide they need Israel?

Apologists are not demonizing Palestinians or anyone else taking a stand on their behalf. This biased and polemical article does not help a complicated situation which is merely one chapter in a complex process in which there is no clear right or wrong, no clear good or evil.

Why do you keep posting his pic? It's kind of creepy.

Interestingly, this guy wrote an essay about the Gaza situation and managed to not even mention the criminal war crimes the Palestinians commit every time they fire rockets into Israeli civilian areas.

What a pathetic tool.

While firing rockets was illegal, 99 % were swatted down by the Iron dome. Israel in return used bunker busters on children, dropped high rise buildings with up to 70 family units, bombed UN schools, demolished hospitals, killed first responders, shot unarmed men, left half a million people homeless, destroyed water and electricity plants, stopped food supplies, and left the place looking like post war Europe. You have Israels politicians calling for elimination and camps. There is no comparison.

You don't spell it G-A-Z-A .

Turn on any TV or read any newspaper and all you hear is ISIS and homegrown terrorists and the new threat to the world.

Gaza is only the topic here and on Mondoweiss.

1000s of reporters, dozens of websites dedicated to Israel's destruction, thousands of Facebook pages all because of little Israel.

The obsession with Israel is completely ridiculous and any thinking person knows it.
