'Europe aiming to de-legitimize settlements'

Israeli officials say EU formulating policy to undermine settlement enterprise; rightwing officials: 'Europe continuing tradition of profiling.'

Itay Blumenthal

"Europe wants to methodically accumulate a policy, using bureaucratic steps, with the aim of de-legitimizing the settlements," Israeli officials told Ynet on Tuesday night, after European diplomats said the EU was considering "blacklisting" settlers convicted of crimes.

"Europe is continuing its tradition of profiling," said the deputy director-general of the Judea and Samaria council, Yigal Dilmoni.

"Radical Islam is continuing to spread across the world and throughout Europe. Islamic terrorists are entering the enlightened continent freely and threatening its citizens daily, but 'of course' the most important subject is Jews and Zionism," Dilmoni argued.

He added: "The construction in Judea and Samaria is a right and an obligation of the Jewish people. It is best the Europeans deal with their own problem and not disrupt the sensitive status quo in existence."

which implies that it is Israeli territory.

Why did I think of it as an occupied territory called the Westbank? Somewhere I must have missed the part of history
after 1947.

....the settlers have always called it Judea and Samaria.

The Left calls it The Wild West Bank .....with reference to cowboys and indians, due to most of our messianic madmen that populate it having their roots in America .

It isn't profiling to keep out criminals. And ALL the settlers are criminals.

The Israeli construction in the West Bank is THEFT.

So for those several hundred thousand squatters, yes, he speaks for them, quite literally. And the rest of Israel doesn't seem in any hurry to get those squatters out of Palestine, so one can't assume they're exactly opposed, themselves. i mean after all, they keep electing government after government that expands settlements further and further.

At some point, Oberliner, you're going to need to shed your rosy spectacles. I think you would have figured this out when your predictions for a Kadima landslide were laughably thwarted. Oslo is dead. Geneva never was. Israel is not liberal, and the Palestinian situation is getting worse. You're twenty years behind on things, Oberliner.

Most Israelis oppose the settlements. Look at any survey taken on the subject over the last twenty years.

This is a movement that is composed primarily of the religious right.
