Obama's Jewish Support Rises Sharply: Poll

President Obama enjoys the support of three-fifths of American Jews, according to the latest American Jewish Committee survey, a significant improvement over where he stood half a year ago in the organization’s polling.

The poll, released Monday, shows Obama with 61 percent of the Jewish vote, as opposed to 28 percent for Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who is the likely Republican nominee.

That’s an improvement for the president over a previous AJC survey in September, when Obama scored 50 percent and Romney 32 percent.

... from the four-fifths that Obama enjoyed in 2008 (according to exit polls).

According to the article, this is only a slight rise from an all-time low last September. If he can only garner 61% support from members of the very liberal AJC, it doesn't bode well as in indicator of support from the Jewish community at large.

Historically, American Jews have overwhelmingly supported Democrats, but they also support the State of Israel and it seems those two groups have divergent goals.

Obama does have less support among Jews now than he did in 2008, however as of right now that support is not as low as it has been at other times during Obama's presidency

from Rosenberg's piece which you were kind enough to link to-

According to a poll released by the American Jewish Committee last week, President Barack Obama is leading former Governor Mitt Romney 61 percent-28 percent among Jewish voters. Obama's support is 17 percent below the 78 percent he scored in 2008 while Romney's is 6 percent above John McCain's 22 percent.

It's interesting how one can read the same data in such disparate ways.
