Israeli soldier stabbed in the head at checkpoint

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- An Israeli soldier was stabbed by a Palestinian near the Oranit checkpoint in southern Qalqiliya, Israeli media reports said Wednesday.

The military said in a statement that the soldier was "stabbed during activity in order to prevent an illegal breaching of the fence."

"The officer overcame the attacker who was detained on site."

Sources added that the stabbed soldier apparently detained the suspect during the incident.
