Did W actually try to do some good??

There is little to admire about the guy or his tenure as President; however, I have always wondered about a couple things he did. They seemed less-scripted at the time, which fits my notion.

I literally just woke up, which ought to explain things. A few hours ago, I was watching Robert Carlyle in a quality docudrama called Hitler: Rise of Evil. I fell asleep during. I think dreaming to the audio may have influenced my thoughts and dreams on this one.

Considering the degree of lock-step-ness of the GOP that his admin commanded in the 2000's, did it seem weird to anyone that he commuted Scooter's sentence? The other one that caught me off-guard as to what-is-he-thinking was that State of the Union where he stated (mumbled) the USA's addicted to foreign oil. Both are areas of Cheney's backyard.

Maybe, just maybe, W was the patsy. An electable good ol' boy who was thrust into the fray. Who eventually realized Cheney played him, and DID represent the Dark Side of which he spoke. (afterall, W was a born-again guy who thought in absolutes.) Was W a guy who eventually felt like he was used as a pawn. A guy who tried, ineffectually, to do something about it.

I mean, seriously, what were his reasons for those way off-GOP-message actions?

I welcome your musings

And had to repay some favors, like for making DUI's disappear? I think he sold his soul when he sobered up and turned fundamental Christian. He was attended by some creepy types who got into his head.

....he is just Foster Brooks' long-lost younger brother.

But seriously, you cannot discuss W. without placing him in Herbert Walker's particular frame of reference. Cheney is important in that sphere of activity but have you ever heard of Oglesby's Yankee vs. Cowboy theory of all this? Basically it states that the long-standing power elite of this country resided with the bankers/wall street/cia of the east who were then seriously challenged by the new oil money of the 20's & 30's and Herbert Walker, embodying both, was (and I guess if Oglesby were still alive he would still say that Herbert Walker still is able) able to align those competing interests. I think it goes very far in providing background to much of this country's history the last 90 years.

Fortunately we're spared Jeb. For now.

Have you happened to have read Russ Baker's 'Family of Secrets?'

That's why he HAD TO WIN in 2000 by whatever means necessary. Bush was a patsy. Cheney, Wolfowitz, Perle, etc just pushed the buttons and pulled the levers~

9/11 was supposed to happen during Poppy Bush's second term. Clinton's election spoiled that. So they tried to get rid of Clinton--the '93 WTC bombing made him look weak on security, they shut down the government, they impeached him. Nothing worked, and he was elected again in '96!

9/11 had to be done no later than 2001, because the internet was going to allow skeptics to get together and compare notes,
and cell phone technology and cell phone cameras were going to mean messages and pictures from the towers would reach the outside world. So heaven and earth had to be moved to put Bush in place in 2001.

If he left that schoolroom he'd be expected to ask "Is Pickles safe? Is there air cover over DC"?

Bush walked out. Cheney still lives. Unfortunately.

13. I sometimes think Bush leaked the NIE on Iran that shortchanged the buildup to that war

Remember when that happened?

Things like that don't just leak. No one got in any open trouble over that. But it kneecapped any talk of attacking Iran.

And then commuting Scooter's sentence, but no outright pardon? Cheney wasn't too happy about that, either.

But of course, you don't give people a pat on the back for doing what they should be doing. And staying the hell out of Iran and letting a guilty verdict stand is just exactly that.

Crediting it to Bush is an evidence-free speculation.

I'm quite aware there is no evidence for the idea Bush leaked the NIE. That's why I offered it as my sometimes opinion. I have no real commitment to the notion, precisely because there is no evidence for it. It's a creative speculation.
