Pelosi nudges Obama on gay marriage, while White House fights off GOP accusations

http://gay.americablog.com/2012/01/pelosi-nudges-obama-on-gay-marriage.html

HuffPost goes on to note that the White House is at pains to explain why Republicans are now saying the President has the same position on marriage equality as Romney, Santorum and Gingrich. That's not something the White House wants to hear the GOP say as we approach the election, as it's sure to be sore point with gay voters.

Name the GOP candidate who would say DOMA is unconstitutional and call for its repeal. And aren't they all calling for the reinstatement of Don't Ask, Don't Tell? How quickly would they stop forcing hospitals accepting Medicare and Medicaid to accept the visitation and decision rights of gay partners of patients?

He's willing to not stand in the way (now that he's evolved to the point where he no longer believes DOMA to be constitutional), but isn't willing to help, either.

President Obama - thinks marriage is for different sex couples only, thinks DOMA is unconstitutional, overturned Don't Ask Don't Tell, enforced gay couples' hospital visitation, etc.

GOP Candidates - think marriage is for different sex couples only, would enforce DOMA, would reinstate Don't Ask Don't Tell, would not protect gay couples' hospital visitation, etc.

I'm comforted by that actual true difference. It could be better, but it could be a hell of a lot worse.

The rest of it is just rhetoric, metrics and gloss. Equal is equal. No to equality is no to equality. They all say no to equality. The fact that this upsets you is good, you should inform the President that it is disgusting that he should share such opinions with the likes of Ron Paul, whose position mirrors the President's in may ways.
So you don't like it. Equal is equal. The President is against equality. For the same reasons the rest of them are, religion, Sanctity, superiority complexes, that sort of thing.

The path to it is moot. You either are or you aren't. We currently aren't equal in the eyes of the federal government.

The bigot who has overturned DADT, signed gay hate crimes laws, called for the repeal of DOMA, and forced hospitals to respect gay visitation rights is vastly preferable to the bigots who would reinstate DADT, overturn the Matthew Shepherd bill, support DOMA, and exile gay partners from hospitals again, yes.

If Obama's brand of bigotry was all we had to deal with, things would be much, much better for the gay community as a whole.

Obama's "soft bigotry" is more difficult to deal with because it's more accepted socially. The naked anti-gay bias of Crazy Eyes Bachmann, Frothy Mix Santorum, Brokeback Mountain Perry and Pizza Man Cain wind up working in our favor. Just like the Westboro Baptist Church works in our favor.

Obama provides a safe space for anti-gay bias, after all, if God's in the mix it must be OK to be against SSM.

Once DOMA is overthrown, states' rights on gay marriage will steadily and thoroughly eroded away. After all states are obliged to honor all marriages, I don't give a fig for soft bigotry. It won't be protected by the law and the soft bigot Obama will be responsible for that if he can be. Remedies under law will be available and the soft bigots will be obliged to keep their bigotry to themselves.

Moreover, while Obama said his position is evolving, the GOP assholes only devolve.

It's time to put your money where your mouth is if you want our full support in 2012. Pander to the right or support civil rights on the left. Why is this a difficult decision?
