Slow Response by Georgians to Mob Attack on Gay RallyBy ANDREW ROTH and OLESYA VARTANYAN
Published: May 19, 2013
MOSCOW Georgian television captured clear images as a mob of more than 20,000 attacked a small gay rights march in downtown Tbilisi on Friday, sending at least 14 people to the hospital.
Some of the priests leading the rock-throwing throngs who stormed past police cordons could be seen participating in the melee; one repeatedly slammed a stool into the windshield of one of several minibuses trying to carry the marchers to safety, while another punched marchers and tried to drag a driver out of a bus. Some gave their names in interviews.
But as of Sunday, the Georgian police have made no arrests, and there are few signs that the investigation is moving forward.
Instead, a bishop who helped to organize the mass turnout ostensibly a counterprotest said from the pulpit that while the violence was regrettable and those who committed it should be punished, the Georgian Orthodox Church was obligated to protest the gay rights rally and would not allow anyone to humiliate us.... (19,964 posts)1. I should probably clarify something here...
This news item is a bit dated but I wanted to gather together some reports of anti-gay hate crimes within a single thread so they would be easier to reference if needed. My apologies for not making that clear in my OP.

A Bronx gang member was sentenced to seven years in prison Friday for his role in a horrific 2010 gay bashing attack. Nelson Falu was among eight members of the "Latin King Goonies" who tortured and beat two teenage boys and a 30-year-old man over the course of several hours in a Bronx home, while using anti-gay slurs.
Prosecutors say the gang members sodomized two of the men with a plunger, chained one to a chair, and used a cigarette lighter to inflict burns.

Prosecutor Theresa Gottlieb told Bronx Supreme Court Justice Steven Barrett her office made the plea offer because the victims don't want to relive "the nightmare" on the witness stand.
The cases against the other gang members are still pending.

Opponents attack Montenegro's first gay pride

PREDRAG MILIC July 24, 2013
BUDVA, Montenegro (AP) Several hundred people shouting "Kill the gays" attacked gay activists and clashed with police on Wednesday in a bid to disrupt the first ever pride event in staunchly conservative Montenegro, which is seeking to improve its human rights record as it bids to join the European Union.
Angry assailants threw rocks, bottles, glasses and various other objects including chairs from local cafes at several dozen flag-waving gay activists who shouted back "Kiss the gays." A shower of stones and bottles also landed on special police securing the gathering in the coastal town of Budva.
Police then intervened to push the attackers away and allow the event to continue. The participants briefly marched by the sea before they stopped to hold speeches as extremists shouted insults from a distance. Later, police again clashed with smaller groups of opponents scattered throughout the town, while the gay activists left the town by boat for security reasons...
