I don't know what else to call this, so I came up with the term "passible/subtle homophobia." I've seen it almost daily lately. What I am referring to is:
News: Obama to meet with LGBT leaders in Russia.
Attacking that news: But were almost entering WW2 - how dare he, he has more important things to do.
or
News: Obama to meet with LGBT leaders in Russia.
Attacking that news: But he ignores the gay groups in other homophobic countries.
Maybe Im being too "sensitive," but it seems like an easy way to pass homophobic ideas along while flying under the radar and or rules. It's a way of saying "Im not homophobic but..." (Im taking about multiple places, not just DU. I have seen it here too.)
Anyone else notice this?

(3,310 posts)"but...". It's the same opener as "I'm not racist but...".
When someone needs a preface and a "but" there's something either phobic or racist behind it. Take it to the bank.

(10,745 posts)I can see that this maybe true for a few, but not for the majority, not here on DU, anyway; I think most are just too caught up on their pet issues and not because of any phobias or anything.
