Guido Barilla, whose firm has almost half the Italian pasta market and a quarter of that in the US, told Italys La Zanzara radio show last night: I would never do an advert with a homosexual family if the gays dont like it they can go an eat another brand.
For us the concept of the sacred family remains one of the fundamental values of the company.
He added: Everyone has the right to do what they want without disturbing those around them. But then the pasta magnate upped the ante by attacking gay adoption. I have no respect for adoption by gay families because this concerns a person who is not able to choose," he said.
Here's a report in Italian.
Hey Guido!!
Fuck you.

(14,944 posts)Just because his attitude is so very nasty. My LGBT friends who have children are doing a fine job and their kids are well adjusted and achieving all kinds of success. They are also loving and smart and know they are well loved. Does Barilla mean "hatefilled"?

(23,091 posts)We eat a lot of Italian food but it will no longer contain any Barilla pasta - never again. I'm not going to spend one penny of our hard earned money on these hate mongers.

(2,674 posts)I just threw two boxes of Barilla pasta away. Will never buy this brand again. It just makes me so damn mad when the owners of large corporations think they are so important that they can pontificate about their self important opinions and that people will care.
lark
(23,091 posts)My gay son loves pasta and cooks it quite a bit, he got rid of quite a few boxes of Barilla.
They held a small seance (tongue in cheek) to remove the bad spirits prior to tossing the stuff in the garbage. lol
HillWilliam
(3,310 posts)donate it to your local food bank. Barilla may already have the money but you can turn their hate into an act of giving. Somebody will appreciate not going hungry at least for a few days.
Don't let Barilla's hate become our own.

(1,406 posts)Examples that show money and brains are not proportionate. That is some stupid hate right there. He does not want other people to interfere with his life and family but then turns around and tell others how to live. I hope he does not live in a glass house.

(8,462 posts)It's astounding how much more divine it tastes, and the texture - just fabulous. There are a lot of homemade things I never do because they're just not that much better or cheaper than store bought. But pasta is definitely worth the little extra effort, plus it keeps just fine in the fridge.
I have been known to buy Barilla when I've been in a rush, but no more. Way too many other choices that are just as good.

Too bad, Guido. You're not the only pasta maker in the world.

Better for your glycemic index.
Free of homophobia, too: http://www.dreamfieldsfoods.com/
Barilla's pasta is not very good. It's a very ordinary product, many no-name and local products are far better... and you pay extra for all those stupid commercials.

I will not knowingly eat or drink anything produced or prepared by bigots of any kind
Is there a list of bigot produced/prepared goods/beverages/restaurants anywhere? We could circulate the list enmasse among our community and allies, and let the bigots experience mass rejection of their hate.

(74 posts)of pasta a year. Ummm..probably closer to a couple of hundred pounds. Until today it has been Barilla. Now it will be anything but. If I could get my ex-wifes family to join me it really would be a ton of pasta and hundreds of gallons of sauce. Ronzoni and De Cecco here I come.

(29,503 posts)they are, to be honest, even better than Barilla. I like Barilla's pasta sauces too, but after today, I'm done with them - every Barilla product.
MADem
(135,425 posts)I used to live in Italy -- Barilla sucks, it's like Walmart pasta over there. Over here they market it like it's special, but it is crap pasta. Never saw the junk in anyone's home--just on the supermarket shelves....gathering dust!
DeCecco is quality pasta.
If you want something low glycemic, try DREAMFIELDS. It cooks up like Italian pasta and doesn't put you in a coma. Very good stuff, and I'm fussy about pasta and risotto.
Bernardo de La Paz
(48,996 posts)It produces several kinds of pasta and it is the world's leading pasta maker with 40-45% of the Italian market and 25% of the US market.[1] It produces pasta in over 120 shapes and sizes. Barilla brand pasta is sold in numerous restaurants worldwide, such as those belonging to the Pastamania chain.[2] It is also the leading seller of bakery products in Italy. Through its acquisition of the Swedish company Wasa, it is the world's leading producer of flatbread (a Scandinavian staple), selling 60,000 tons annually.[3]

I have always had some Barilla pasta in my kitchen ..... oh well that stops now. Even for
being a dumb ass straight guy I don't get how Senor Barilla did not get that you can't say this
stuff w/out hurting your business.

I suggest a general boycott.

They will gone later this morning. Barilla pasta will never enter my home again.
Note to Guildo: I am not gay but you cannot treat my friends like that. FUCK YOU.
8:31AM update: There is no longer Barilla pasta in my pantry; three boxes of it are in my trash. Again, FUCK YOU BARILLA.

(3,310 posts)Rather than throw out perfectly good food we can't use, there are hungry people probably right in our own communities who'd appreciate anything at all to eat. Donate them to a food pantry (Second Harvest is dear to me because they fed Rob and me for a time).
Barilla already got the money. Turn their negativity into something positive. They don't have the power to take that away from us, ever.

(3,275 posts)It was all Ronzoni. I usually don't pay much attention to what pasta I buy. I will make a special point to check that I don't buy barilla in the future. I'm a straight girl who cooks a lot. The Huffington Post has a list of pasta brands.
