http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2013/11/11/anti-lgbt-groups-acquire-enough-signatures-to-repeal-california-law-protecting-transgender-students/Opponents of a controversial new California law that protects the rights of transgender students appear to have acquired the 500,000 signatures required to have an initiative to repeal it placed on the ballot.
The group calling itself Privacy for All Students which earlier this month was criticized for lying about scope of Assembly Bill 1266, which it claimed had led to an increase in student rape in schools submitted 620,00 signatures to California authorities on Sunday.
Each of Californias 58 counties will independently conduct a random sampling of the submitted signatures to assure that they are legitimate. If they are found to be, the anti-AB1266 referendum could be on the November 2014 ballot.
Gina Gleason, of the Faith and Public Policy Center, one of the groups leading the call for repeal, said in a statement that [m]any people said we had no chance to collect over half a million signatures in just 90 days, but we have proven them wrong by gathering over 115,000 more signatures than the minimum needed.

(8,830 posts)offering protection for LGB was stripped of language that included transgender individuals. I'm glad something was passed, because it was long overdue, but as the mother of a trans-person, I cannot be happy that part of the population was left dangling in the wind.
I am so sick of these idiots - sick to death of people who are so backward and frightened that they pine for a fantasy past that never existed. They are a evil blot on humanity; a suppurating sore that will not heal and prevents us as a species from moving forward.
Sick of it.

(802 posts)I'm so sick of all this conform-to-gender-role nonsense I could lose my lunch. Undoubtedly they sought signatures in the "red" counties.

(4,261 posts)Then I remembered my growing up and I knew why.... Some people just like to hurt others and those who are vulnerable and without popular support make a wonderful choice for victims, for there will be few repercussions.
