so they'll likely just amend their state constitution.

I'm afraid that this victory is temporary. However, it's not that far to NM and our lege is not going to amend our constitution. It appears that nobody here gives a rip that marriage is no longer reserved for heterosexuals.

This judge ruled that the UTAH ban violated the FEDERAL constitution - which takes precedent.

Then this is a useful precedent, although I'd hate to see it argued before the Roberts court.

If only Scalia would spontaneously combust over what Pope Francis is telling him, things would be different.

The impact of the federal stance is being felt.

We may hear, as part of blowback, more "state's rights" yelps, but it seems there is a forward pattern happening.

The first shot has been fired off here in Ala:

Rep. Patricia Todd, D-Birmingham has filed legislation seeking to repeal Alabama’s ban on gay marriage, but she admits the bill probably doesn’t stand much of a chance.

“It’s an opportunity to talk about it,” Todd said.

The state’s openly gay, and newly married, legislator said she wants to have a conversation about whether it’s fair and legal for Alabama to recognize some marriages performed in other states, but not others.
