Franklin Graham: Putin is doing ‘what’s right for Russia’ by cracking down on gays

Rev. Franklin Graham on Sunday said that he stood by earlier comments agreeing with so-called gay “propaganda” bans in Russia because President Vladimir Putin was doing “what’s right” for the country.

During a March interview with the Charlotte Observer, Graham had asserted that LGBT people were trying to “recruit” children by adopting them, and suggested that it was “exploitation.”

He also said that he “agreed” with Putin because “protecting his nation’s children was a pretty smart thing to do.”

Speaking to ABC News on Sunday, Graham doubled down on his praise of the Russian president.

2. I get so tired of the same baseless claims......

The anti-gay fanatics fantasize all kinds of things that are utterly baseless and not rooted in any factual context. And interestingly they tend to make the charges almost exclusively about gay men and not lesbians.

They fantasize that gay men find them "hot" and are going to come onto them or seduce them at the gym, in the bathroom or anywhere else. Trust me, as a gay man, I may notice an attractive man in any of those settings but it is the furthest from my mind to come onto them or seduce them. My partner has my attention.

They fantasize that gay men are recruiting children to the gay lifestyle through propaganda, adoption and outright solicitation. Let's be brutally honest....pedophilia is pedophilia whether it is man on girl, man on boy, woman on boy or woman on girl. It is a crime. I detest NAMBLA as a cover for pedophilia.

I detest the idea of solicitation or propaganda BUT I don't consider outreach to LGBT youths to affirm them as people with the same rights and deserving of the same respect as any other persons. LGBT are at a substantially higher risk of suicide. Why wouldn't one welcome outreach that is affirming?

They fantasize that allowing two persons of the same gender to marry will destroy the "sanctity" of marriage. I think heterosexuals have done a fine job of that themselves without our help.

Perhaps we should ship Mr. Graham to Russia and see how Putin treats religious minorities. He would find himself hard pressed to be able to proselytize in Russia. The Russian Orthodox Church is very powerful. The ROC tolerates Jews but there is no love lost between them and Islam.

That someday we will be able to read about LGBT news without hearing about Reverend So-And-So's personal opinion about our rights or televangelist Sleeps-With-Boys condemnation of our souls as though it were somehow relevant to us at all.

I'm all for shining a light on the shit that people say, but maybe it's come time we just ignore them entirely?
