Singapore bans, destroys gay-themed childrens books

State-run libraries in Singapore are destroying all remaining copies of a gay-themed childrens book that is based on the true story of two male penguins raising a baby chick at New Yorks Central Park Zoo.
The National Library Board, which runs 26 public libraries in Singapore, said it will pulp the copies of three titles, including And Tango Makes Three, which was published in 2005 about two male chinstrap penguins who together tried to hatch a rock as if it were an egg, the New York Post reported.
The prevailing norms, which the overwhelming majority of Singaporeans accept, support teaching children about conventional families but not about alternative, nontraditional families, which is what the books in question are about, Minister of Communications and Information Yaacob Ibrahim said Friday.

The White Swan Express: A Story About Adoption and Whos in My Family: All About Our Families will also be banned from the libraries. It was not clear how and when the books will be destroyed.
