This church apparently has a reputation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlah_Worldwide_Church I had no idea about this until I walked by it. I literally stood by mouth agape for a good two minutes staring at it and I guess I my expression was enough to attract a number of bystanders.
I dont yet know what I am going to do about this but I am going to do something.
Edited to add from wiki:
Atlah Worldwide Missionary Church is a Christian church and ministry located in Harlem, New York, USA. The church is led by James David Manning who is the chief pastor.[6] The church campus is the site of the ATLAH Theological Seminary, where classes are offered on preaching and prophecy. The church is also the home of the Manning Report. In early 2014 the church gained attention for statements on the sign outside its building that expressly called for violence against LGBT persons and were critical of Barack Obama.

(32,886 posts)The Mount Morris Park Historic District in Harlem is a source of pride and cultural history to community residents and all New Yorkers. The Atlah Worldwide Missionary Church located at 38 West 123rd Street has been in violation of Landmark Preservation rules and in doing so has shown a lack of respect to the community and visitors to the community. The signers of this petition request that The Atlah Worldwide Missionary Church have fines imposed upon them for multiple violations and that the sign located on the Lenox Avenue side of the property be removed.

(2,091 posts)politics, the church should give up their tax exempt status. Before the 2012 election the priest where I went to church was preaching from the pulpit who to vote for and how to vote. It was also in the bulletin. That day I wrote to the priest telling him why I was leaving the church and that the church should start paying taxes if he wants to tell people how to vote. Haven't been back since.
