A Very Gay Amazon Gift Registry Created For The Very Anti-Gay Ted Cruz

Who says protests can't be fun? A public gift registry called Congratulations Cruz! was set up on Amazon.com last week by Portland activist Konrad Juengling to send a strong message to Senator Ted Cruz.

The registry contains a total of 40 gifts that when purchased will be automatically sent to presidential candidate Senator Ted Cruz's office in Austin, Texas. Among the gifts listed are a You Can't Pray The Gay Away decal, an anti-homophobia bumper sticker, and various books on how to overcome homophobia, racism, and other prejudices.

Senator Ted Cruz has had no shortage of animosity toward the LGBTQ community. He actively promotes "religious freedom" bills such as the ones seen recently in Indiana and Arkansas. He has introduced legislation to ban gay marriage at the federal level. And he even introduced legislation in the Senate that would overturn a Washington D.C. law passed by the city's council that bans discrimination against workers in the city who have had abortions. He claimed that this law too violated "religious freedom."

As recently as several days ago, Cruz couldn't even deny that he had any personal animosity toward the LGBTQ community and even asked the reporter who questioned him on his stance whether he was an anti-Christian. However, his most memorable quip about gays was probably in the speech he made at the Network of Iowa Christian Homeschoolers' "Iowa Homeschool Day At The Capitol" in Des Moines on April 9th.

3. And here's that quote he spoke to the "Homeschoolers" crowd...

"We look at the jihad that is being waged right now, in Indiana, and in Arkansas," Cruz preached, "going after people of faith who respect the biblical teaching that marriage is the union of one man and one woman."

This type of rhetoric has increased steadily since Cruz announced that he is running for President. This likely means that Cruz is attempting to gain more money, popular support, and eventually, votes from the GOP's much beloved evangelical base. However, there is no denying that Cruz has always felt this way. One only needs to look at his father Rafael Cruz to see that anti-gay prejudice and hyperbole runs in the family.
