Related: About this forumRegarding Ultrasounds: This is no way near being over, MANY battles in many states still to fight
<SNIP>
... while Virginias governor is backing away from the invasive bill, legislators in Alabama and Pennsylvania are considering the same ultrasound policy. Even though studies show that viewing an ultrasound does not change a womans mind about having an abortion, Pennsylvania Rep. Marcy Toepel (R) argued that Getting an ultrasound is a good thing for pregnant women.
Seven states already mandate that an abortion provider perform an ultrasound on women seeking abortions and provide women an opportunity to view the image.

I was wondering if they purposely over reached on invasive ultrasound?

(37,540 posts)1. I was wondering if they purposely over reached on invasive ultrasound?
Allowed all of the outrage to focus on that aspect of the bill, so when they switched to topical ultrasound the focus on the actual bill would dissipate? It's still an unacceptable intrusion on rights of women to control their own decisions, no matter what technology is used in the process.

(61,656 posts)2. I think they are making the cost
of getting an abortion so expensive, they are hoping women can't afford it anymore.
That was my thought as well. That way they can hurt women and disproportionately hurt the poor at the same time. Pretty much their two favorite activities.

(30,884 posts)4. Yes, it's about cost first.
It's little different from states which imposed waiting periods or restrictions on where early abortions can be performed. Anything to make it more difficult is the underlying sentiment.
