Dressing like a ‘strumpet,’ and saying ‘no’ to sex sends mixed message, columnist claims

A columnist for the anti-LGBT website BarbWire added her two cents to the discussion about how much responsibility women should bear for their own sexual assaults.

Gina Miller dismissed the recent development of a nail polish that can detect the presence of some odorless, colorless, and incapacitating “date rape” drugs slipped into drinks as “a handy tool for our Godless, sex-obsessed, ‘modern’ culture.”

She blamed “political correctness” and permissive attitudes about sex for creating a “victimhood” mentality in women who trenchantly noted a market might exist for such a product, reported Right Wing Watch.

~snip~

“Our nation has turned its back on God,” Miller said. “We have kicked Him out of our schools and out of the public square. We have raised several generations of Godless, self-centered, sex-obsessed kids, and the truth is that there can be no positive transformation of any sick culture without the saving power of the Spirit of God through Jesus Christ to change people’s hearts of stone into new hearts of flesh.”

1. What a POS. Women are not supposed to protect themselves against

being drugged without their consent by someone who is drugging them because he or she is up to evil?

I am a First Amendment hawk, but Miller needs to STFU.

As an aside, this is yet another instance when homophobia and misogyny go hand in hand. When the worst insult you think you can give a man is that he acts like (in your mind) women act, homophobia is not your only bigotry.

2. Maybe we need some clothing to be labeled "for strumpets only" so women can avoid rape.

Or maybe we could just require women to wear burkhas when they leave the house. Maybe we could just pray rape away at school.

People like this just make me sick.

3. Nah. Those women are very mistreated. Let's all wear bikinis everywhere.

Which brings up a good question: Who gets raped more, women in bikinis and bathing suits or women in other kinds of garb?

And what explains rapes of victims like nuns, women over 80 and women in hospital gowns, lying comatose under the covers?

4. Pretty much boilerplate right-wing stuff

Use of "political correctness" and "victimhood" as boo words, railing against a permissive modern culture, appeals to pray more/convert more heathens, the lie that god has been removed from schools. This is all run-of-the-mill conservative rhetoric, largely unchanged in thirty years.

All the same, I've submitted it to "Fundies Say".

7. there are not enough words for the stupidity and woman-hatred in that pos "column"

She said shielding victims from blame would not end rape, and she said it was pointless to teach men that rape is wrong because most of them “already know that it’s wrong to sexually assault another person.”
