Cuomo reinforces womens rights theme on upstate tour
ROCHESTERGovernor Andrew Cuomo and his running mate Kathy Hochul traveled to three cities in upstate New York today on a blue bus dotted with pink stars to promote their womens equality agenda, and highlight the campaigns differences with Cuomos Republican opponent Rob Astorino on abortion.
The tour began in Albany at a union hall uptown, which had been decorated with red, blue and pink balloons. Aretha Franklins R-E-S-P-E-C-T blared over the sound system, and Cuomo took the stage to Tina Turners Simply the best, after being introduced by an all-female slate of surrogates, including reproductive health advocates, former New York City Council speaker Christine Quinn, and Hochul.
Onstage, Cuomo painted his opponent as an anti-choice extremist, and a hypocrite.
I respect peoples right to disagree. You have people who are right-to-life, Cuomo told the crowd of about 150 people at the union hall, where he discussed the tenth point of his Womens Equality Agenda, the 10-bill package of legislation that includes moving abortion law out of the states penal code.
My opponent was right-to-life," he said. "I understand that. But lets speak honestly to the issue. You either support a womans right to choose or you dont. And if you dont, thats OK, but have the courage to say, I dont support a womans right to choose.....
