Austin city manager holds forum on dealing with women leaders (fails big time)

AAUW Jeer of the Week

For the first time in its history, Austin, TX has a majority-female city council, and to respond to the historic moment, assistant city manager Anthony Snipes arranged a two hour forum http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/05/13/what-women-ask-austin-_n_7278578.html for city employees on how to work with women leaders. The facilitators explained to city employees that women "don't want to deal with numbers," "act on emotions," and "ask a lot of questions." After a video of the training leaked this week, city manager Marc Ott issued an apology, but not before the Austin city government was called out on Twitter by people using the hashtag #WhatWomenAsk. One of our favorite tweets encapsulates this week's jeer well: "@austintexasgov what're you going to do to make sure that tax $ and staff time aren't wasted on sexist training in the future #whatwomenask."
