Welcome to the United State of Women

Welcome to the United State of Women

A diverse group of celebrated women are delivering a powerful message to the country: “Today, we will change tomorrow.”

The White House’s first-ever summit centered exclusively on women’s advancement, the United State of Women, will be held today in Washington D.C. The event will bring together thousands of women and men to discuss the extensive accomplishments made by women and identify all that is left to achieve.

Speakers will come from all sectors and backgrounds. Representing the work of the White House and the Obama administration will be President and First Lady Barack and Michelle Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Senior Advisor to the President Valerie Jarrett, and Executive Director of the White House Council on Women and Girls Tina Tchen.

Other speakers will include Cecile Richards, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund, who has played a pivotal role in Planned Parenthood’s tradition of providing health care service to 2.7 million patients and sex education to over one million people and worked diligently to ensure that Planned Parenthood would help to shape women’s access to health care under the Affordable Care Act; Reshma Saujani, Founder and CEO of Girls Who Code, who is working to close the gender gap in tech by increasing opportunities and involvement for women in science, technology, engineering and math fields; Sayu Bhojwani of the New American Leaders Project, who developed a training program designed to prepare first and second generation immigrants to become civic leaders and address the challenges they may face along the way; Cherno Biko, co-chair of Young Women’s Advisory Council (YWAC), co-founder of Black Trans Lives Matter, and an activist giving voice to Black trans women; and actor Patricia Arquette, who called out the gender wage gap in her 2015 Oscar acceptance speech. They’ll be joined by women representing organizations from Marvel Entertainment to Spotify to Black Girls Rock! as well as numerous non-profits, think tanks, and labor organizations. A full speaker list is available here.

A livestream of the United State of Women summit will be available for viewing; there are also local events happening across the country.
